    Question

  • I see numerous updates that say not approved that were received on November 6, 2012. These are previously approved updates and there appear to be hundreds of them. What are these and do I need to go through and approve every one that has not been approved. Where did they come from "all of a sudden"?

I tend to keep my WSUS updates current and approved according to a very strict schedule. This has complicated the entire process.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Thanks for the link. It discusses a KB2734608 that needs to be installed.

KB2734608 needs to be installed if you need to patch Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 systems from the WSUS server. The update is not available via WSUS; it must be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center. Installing the update has extensive special installation requirements that make automation of the installation impossible. Please review KB2734608 for the detailed instructions ... twice ... before installing the update.
When I go to MS for updates it only shows my server needed KB2720211 but when I try to install this it fails each time.
This update is also an option to KB2734608 -- but installing it via MU/WSUS almost always fails. It also has special installation requirements (most notably that the WSUS server is perfectly healthy) which are discussed in KB2720211. There is also a WSUS Support Team blog post that you should review now that you have experienced a failed installation of KB2720211.

It should. Approval status is not a factor with KB2734608 as far as I recall.

  • Thanks for the link. It discusses a KB2734608 that needs to be installed. I do not see this on my WSUS server anywhere in Updates and it is not an installed update. When I go to MS for updates it only shows my server needed KB2720211 but when I try to install this it fails each time. This is happening on all of my WSUS servers.

What am I missing? Many thanks!

  • Hello again

Looks like I am going to need to read these instructions carefully.. Found out there was a 2012 server installed yesterday at our site.

Will this take care of all of the updates that are not approved at this point? I have been holding off approving these because I don't want any "surprises" from doing that.

    Thanks for the help.
