2003 r2 x64 server unable to join Windows Server 2008 domain

    Question

  • Hi,

When I try to join a fresh installed Windows 2003 r2 x64 sp2 server to my Windows 2008 domain, which runs on Windows 2008 R2, I am not able to join the domain.

I've checked that DNS, DHCP and other stuff are in place and configed right, and it is... The domain runs in 2008 mode, not 2008 r2 mode.
I get the following error message:

The Following error occurred attempting to join the domain "abcdef.local"

The network path was not found.

Now, I've been troubleshooting this for a while, and I'm completely stuck!

  • Please make sure you have proper DNS configuration on your server. I think this is related to a name resolution issue.

Please paste IPCONFIG/ALL from your new server and DC here.

Thanks for the answere, the strange part is that all the Windows 2008 r2 servers and Win7 machines actually get into the domain without any problems at all.
