Outlook not updating Exchange Server Address Book

    Question

  • What exactly is happening is the fields in the address book on the Exchange Server is correct and updates fine but they will not update on Outlook. If we add a new user then outlook will update that with the new information but if we try to change someone title who is already in the system then oulook will not update it. I am not sure if this is a problem but we did have the doman set up without the .extension, i.e. maindomain , but later on we did add the .extension to prepare for exchange server 2007 if we ever change over to it, i.e. maindomain.com. We also tried to rebuild the address book and then update the address on the user end in outlook and it did not help

  • Ill get back to you on how we changed the domain name. In the second article it mentions about echange server 2007, we havent switched over to exchange server 2007 yet, we are still using 2003. Since we initially had a single level domain and then switched to a fully qualified domain it may be causing problems?

  • Far as the changing a domain it was a long lengthy painstaking process that i do not know the correst process. Just for additional information this maybe clearify whats going on a little more precisely. We have a GAL with everyones information in it and that is linked to the offline address book, i apologize if i dont have the correct names of the places. And in outlook it is set to update form the global addres list. Under the GAL if we change the description it is updated there but when we go to add the address book, or update the address book, in outlook it will not update that description field. For an example, lets say John Doe was once a manger who got promoted to CEO, under the GAL the decsription field is updated with CEO, but when you go under the address book in Outlook, even after updating the address book, the Title field of John Doe still says manager. We tried to rebuild the GAL and then reupdate the address book in outlook but it still wont update. Would this have to do with us having a single labeled domain and then converting over to a fully qualified domain?

  • Hi,

This is more of an Exchange/outlook problem. In order to solve this problem effectively, I suggest you initial a new post in the Exchange Forum. They are the best resource for this kind of problem.

That new list may take some time to appear in the Outlook contact list, you may disable the outlook cache, close the outlook, opn it again, and the addresses should be available, after that enable outlook cache again.

I hope that the information above helps you. This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

  • Hello,

Can you create a new outlook profile for the users that are experiencing this problem? If new users are working fine, my guess is that when you create a new outlook profile then that will also work...
