Hyper-V R2 Server iSCSI disk - partition cannot be created - vds error

    Question

  • Hi everyone!

I have a problem with the creation of a partition on my SAN from my Hyper-V R2 servers. The setup:

fully patched Hyper-V R2 servers - iSCSI SAN (Dell MD3000i) connected with MPIO to the servers - LUN online and shown in diskpart - disk is NOT readonly
If I now enter the command "create partition primary" the console shows an error. Here the procedure:

    ###########################################
    Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7600

    DISKPART> create partition primary

DiskPart has encountered an error: Incorrect function.
See the System Event Log for more information.

Viewing the eventlog remotely shows the following:

Has anyone an idea what is wrong with my installation?

    Thank you for your help,

  • Hi,

You can try to connect this partition to some other computer with full installation of Windows system to check whether you get the same issue. By the way, I found a post discussed the similar issue with yours, you can refer to:

    Problem initializing MD3000

    http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19268011.aspx

In addition, please check whether you have the same issue if you perform the same action on some other partition from the same SAN.
