  • Hello,

DFS settings are kept in AD, you cannot delete DFS settings without touching AD.

  • hi,

do you mean you have installed DFS on a RODC and you want to uninstall it?

DFS replication is used for AD replication - but if you are not using it for AD Replication and you have installed the DFS role to provide access to file shares etc then you can uninstall it safely.

  • Hi Denis

really i didn't know before your comment, that DFS used for AD replication.

i thought DFS used for only file & folders sychronization from DC to RODC.

still i doubt about dfs & ad replication relation.

    kindly suggest.

If, its domain based DFS, its info will be stored in the AD & if its standalone, it will be local to the server. RODC is doesn't update RWDC to the changes made on the RODC because replication from RWDC to RODC is unidirectional. To avoid changes made from the unsecured or novice admin, RODC is used.

  • so this is because you are using DFS-R to replicate your sysvol so you wouldn't uninstall DFS in this case.

  • you can - it would use FRS instead but you wouldn't want to

why are you so determined to remove dfs from the server - it shouldn't cause you issues with it being on the server
