Error connecting to Server 2008 R2 from Windows Mobile 6.1 Device via Remote Desktop Services

  • We are having a problem with connecting to Windows Server 2008 R2 from Windows Mobile 6.1 devices (Symbol MC55). We are using the Remote Desktop Mobile program that came already installed on the device.

    Originally, the RDS Server Host  was not configured as Per Device or Per User, since we had not received the licenses yet and were still testing. Without the server host configured, we were able to connect from the Mobile devices without any errors. Even after installing the licenses, it still worked, though, we had still not configured the Host as per device or per user.

    However, once we configured the server as per device, we can no longer connect from the Mobile devices. The error we are receiving is: "Because a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer. Verify that you are logged on to the network, and then try connecting again." We are connected to the network, and the Mobile devices can ping the server, and visa versa. There are 14 mobile devices, all MC55's, and they all get the same error.

    We are able to connect from a laptop using Remote Desktop Connection without any problems, and the license is assigned. However, even using the same user we are not able to connect from the mobile devices.

    We did reset a couple of the mobile devices back to factory default (using tool from Symbol), in case a temporary RDS license was causing the problem. However, we are still getting the same error.

    Does anyone one know what would be causing this? Is there something specifically that needs to be done for the mobile devices to be able to use Remote Desktop Services?
