Virtual Memory Problem windows 2003

    Question

  • I have problem in paging file setting in Windows 2003 Serve. 8GB Ram installed in the server and 6 GB paging file configured in the D-drive.

There is no Paging file configured in the system drive but pagefile.sys occupied about 8GB

Steps tried to resolve this issue:-

    • Rebooted the server and checked still unused paging file in system drive
    • Tried to split the Paging system drive 2GB and D- drive 4 GB after rebooted the server and found that Total paging file size is 2 GB ( It’s taking only system drive value)
    • I don’t have more space in system drive, hence 6 GB paging file configured in D- drive. Still those 8 GB unused pagings file there in the system drive.

Need your help to resolve this case.

    Regards,

    Sridharan. M

Answers

  • Sridharan you have to have paging file on system Drive if it is full you have run the cleanup, you can't move the default page to a non system drive location because Storing the page file on a different partition of the same drive as Windows increases the hard drive seek times and will reduce system performanc.
