442 Error - Failed to enable Virtual Adapter

  • Windows 8, I am  trying to connect on VPN and I only receive this error : 442 - Failed to enable Virtual Adapter.

    If you are using Cisco VPN client, please contact Cisco Technical Support. Below is a similar thread asked in Cisco forum, hope it helps.

  • Go to this registry location - HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVirtA

    Double click DisplayName and

    • For x86, change the value data from something like “@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter” to “Cisco Systems VPN Adapter
    • For x64, change the value data from something like “@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows” to “Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows
