Installed memory 8.00 GB (2.49 GB usable)

    Question

  • Our remote desktop server is running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.

We have been having issues regarding performance at times, and I noticed the above.  I've been unable to find a solution and have had the suppliers out (who are basically saying nothing to do with us), and they reset the RAM, CPU etc.

Today I converted the Server to VMWare and after booting noticed that this now said 8.00GB (3GB usable).  I've tinkered with the allocated memory, increasing to 12Gb, or reducing to 4Gb, both times with 3Gb usable.  I reduced to 2Gb and reported normal as 2Gb.  Upped back to 4Gb and back to 3Gb usable.

By virtualising, it is presumably not hardware based.  So anyone any clues what could be causing this?

    Regards

  • Sorted on the VMWare platform at least (will test on physical server when can reboot).

Ran msconfig, went to Boot Tab, Advanced Options and UNselected the "Use Max Memory"

Everything now ok.  Although I thought I had checked this out before....tut tut!

    Cheers
