cannot open firewall on windows server 2003 R2

    Question

  • I cannot run firewall on windows server 2003 r2. It gives me message,

"Windows Firewall cannot run because another program or service is running that might use the network address translation component (Ipnat.sys)".

I found out that i have to disable Routing and Remote Access. I am not using any VPN or dial-up connections to the server. Is it safe to disable it and try to run firewall.

how to do that ->Go to Start then Administrative Tools then click on Routing and Remote Access. And find computer name(server) on it. Right click and click on disable

  • Hello,

if you use RRAS the firewall is disabled automatically if enabled. If you don't need RRAS disable it as you described it already.
