Windows 2008 nlb Unicast mode virtual ip not reachable from same subnet hosts

    Question

  • Hi Guys

i am facing problem with dual nic nlb configuration in unicast mode on windows 2008 r2
    1.  if i configure it in multicast mode with single nic i am able to reach the virtual ip from the host in the same subnet

But if i configure NLB in unicast mode with dual nic i am not able to reach the virtual ip from the host in the same subnet

i would be thankful if you could kindly provide me with configuration help.

    Below is my configuration

    host A  Public nic :-  172.20.16.14 subnet 255.255.240.0

              Private NLB nic :-- 20.0.0.1 Subnet 255.255.2555.0

    host B  Public nic :-  172.20.16.15 subnet 255.255.240.0

              Private NLB nic :-- 20.0.0.2 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Virtual Cluster IP    172.20.16.17 Subnet 255.255.240.0

When i ping the virtual ip from two hosts its reachable

when i ping the virtual ip from the hosts on the same subnet its not reachable

    I ran the command

Netsh interface ipv4 set interface "[NLB NIC]" forwarding=enabled
on both the Private NLB nics of both the hosts but with no luck
