DNS 2008 Server NIC Setup

    Question

  • Hello,

We have just completed migration of our domain from Windows 2000 (I know, I know...) to Windows 2008.  The migration went well and all is operational, but I have a question regarding DC NIC settings.

On our old Windows 2000 PDC (one NIC), our former network manager had the primary DNS set to the PDCs local address (10.1.0.x) and the secondary DNS set to the ISPs DNS address (137.xxx.xxx.xxx).

In Windows 2008, I have set up DNS to be AD Integrated.  All of the servers have a single NIC active.  What makes sense to me is to add the ISPs DNS server address to the root hints in DNS and then set all of the NICS to point to their local addresses for their primary DNS and the address another DC for their secondary DNS.  Is this correct thinking?

I have been looking for a couple of hours regarding best practices and all I am finding is info about the problems with dual NIC DCs...

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Thanks for any assistance
