DCDiag error - failed test systemlog

    Question

  •

    Hi All,

I am getting a "failed test systemlog" message when running DCDiag on our 2 domain controller.

    This is getting on DC1

An Error Event occured.  EventID: 0x00000457
                Time Generated: 01/25/2008   11:43:39
(Event String could not be retrieved)
             ......................... DC01 failed test systemlog

    DC2

An Error Event occured.  EventID: 0x00000457
                Time Generated: 01/25/2008   11:48:57
(Event String could not be retrieved)
             ......................... DC02 failed test systemlog

Any idea how to fix this issue or what is causeing it?

    Thanks all in advance,

    Kuruvilla

    Sorry for the late reply...

I figured if there are errors in the System event log, then it will showup as systemlog test failed in DCdiag . Once cleared the System logs there are no more errors.

    Thanks for the response

  • That set of errors suggest that your domain controllers can't see each other.

Tests that I would start with:

See if you can ping - fix network issues that arise.

See if you can nslookup the DCs - fix DNS registration issues.

Check the SRV records within your DNS structure to make sure that there are the host of SRV records involved.

Use Replmon to see if you can force replication.

    Keep us posted Smile

  • Every time I have had this error it was always the printer drivers. Try deleting your printers rerun dcdiag and if it clears then ad your printers one at a time until you get the problem back. Then find the right driver for that printer until the error goes away. Hope this helps

  • Yes, you're right. I though DCDiag ran it's own test when in fact it was only reporting what was in the log. Consequently, even after I had corrected the problem reported in the log, DCDiag continued to report the problem because the error was still in the log - D-oh!
