NAS As a File Server

    Question

  • Hello

Can I use NAS as a file server as well as for server backups ???

I have 3 servers running windows server 2008… two of which I use as domain controller(DC1 & DC2)… Rest one I use as a file server

Because of huge data   I need more disk space …

Is it suggestive to migrate my file server to a NAS ???

    Any suggestion is extremely appreciated

    Thanx

    Gaurav

  • Hi,

Network Attached Storage Systems are built almost exclusively for these purposes.
Whats your storage at the moment ?

  • Hello!
I would actually suggest you to try iSCSI SAN solutions for backup. It will use your existing network, so you don't need to purchase additional hardware. Also the target will be visible as local hard drive. As for me it is much better and easier. To test it you can try some freeware or trial. For exemple openfiler(it's free BUT it works on linux(not good as for me) or StarWind .
    All the best!
