  • Does this PC have (or has it had in the past) any Linux boot-loaders on the hard disk?

  • Hello,

Is automount disabled on the system?

From a cmd prompt run diskpart

    Diskpart> Automount

May state something similar to "Automatic mounting of new volumes is disabled"

What it the output if it disabled try

    Diskpart> Automount Enable

  • Darrell,

I am seeing the same error on a server.  Unfortunately, it has SAN volumes connected - so, I would not want to enable Automount.

  • Hello James,

Here is the link for the issue

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/windows-7-windows-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1-installation-error-0x800F0A12

The volume containing the boot files needs to be accessable, not all the volumes in the SAN

automount disabled or enabled made no difference.

UPDATE: AUTOMOUNT ENABLE. Then do a restart. Installed fine after that :) Thanks

  • According to your link the following is true:

Disk management tool from another software manufacturer was used to copy (orclone) the disk or partition on which you’re trying to install SP1.

I changed the disk from an old one to this new one using a sandberg harddisk cloner.

  • Try to add a drive letter to the 'system reserved' partition (unassing after complete SP1 installation).
