  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

When you run "nslookup adaptpdc", it display which error?

    A:
    DNS request timed out
    timeout was 2 seconds
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    B:
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    DNS request timed out
    timeout was 2 seconds

A: Create reverse DNS zone and run "ipconfig /registerdns" to register DNS server PTR record
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242906

B: Run "nslookup adaptpdc.adaptit.co.za" to test, check/add DNS suffix in NIC TCP/IP properties.

  • Is this server a DC (domain controller)? If so, are those other two IP address also DCs?

                                           168.81.105.113
                                           172.16.10.152

    .

Is the "Secondary" DNS a DC? If so, is it one of the above IPs? If not, those addresses must be removed.

And I'm not sure what you mean by a "Secondary" server? In the sense of the word, "Secondary," that usually means it's hosting a secondary zone. If it is a DC, then it can't host a secondary zone of the AD zone, because it will automatically change to AD integrated, of course assuming that the zone is AD integrated.

Post an ipconfig /all of the "Secondary" server, please.

Also post the nslookup outputs from both servers, so we can evaluate and make recommendations.

  • Hi Rich Tan,

Thank you for your response. When i run nslookup adaptpdc it display DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. There is a reverse zone created and i've now added a DNS suffix for adaptit.co.za
