    Question

  • Yesterday a folder on the server which all the employees share called Global stopped allowing them to open the excel spreadsheets. It now says its in a different format, xlsx instead of xls.

  • Hi.

I dont really think this is a server issue. XLS is the old Excel format and XLSX is the new zipped XML format. My guess is that someone block access and then opened and resaved the files. Or did some conversion.. Or just to make things interesting renamed them.

Can you open the xlsx if you rename one to zip. If they are in the new format you will see a couple of folders. And then somebody at work is playing around..
