Windows update Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - April 2013 KB890830 crashes Windows Server 2008 R2

    Question

  • We have tried installing Windows update Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - April 2013 KB890830 crashes Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. We tried it on another clean VM setup and it is the same, the update crashes and cause the VM unworkable. Upon checking, we realise it could be due to the update causing issue with the SAN harddisks, therefore crashing the VM.

Our guess is it should not be a Windows Server 2008 R2 Media problem because the VM is working perfectly fine, but only this Malicious Software Removal (from Jan - Apr 2013) which is causing the crashing issue, and disabling these updates make everything works fine.

    Any advice?

We reported the issue to VMware, however they could not replicate the issue with this update on their side and ask us to report it to Microsoft but we could not find any channel.

Is there a way we can report the bug to Microsoft without submiting through their paid channel?
