what happens if i delete old backup files

    Question

  • so i'm using windows 7, and it's been telling me that there's no backup space left. i only have 4.03 MB left. i checked the backup files and  noticed that the first backup date was 13/8/2010 to 15/8/2010 and the latest one is from 26/9/2010 to 17/9/2010.

what i want to ask is if i deleted old backups and only kept the recent backup, will it affect the files i have on my laptop right now? will they be deleted forever?

    >>You can delete the old backup set  named "13/8/2010 to 15/8/2010. This will free up some space on your volume. This will also not affect the backup set named "26/9/2010 to 17/9/2010" . The only thing you should know that after deleting the old backup set, you will not be able to recover  files from those backups.

    >> Deletion of backups has nothing to do with your original files. This deletion will delete only the copy of files stored as part of backup. The original files will remain as it is after deletion of the backup.

  • Incremental backups or full backups each time??
With incremental they are all tied together to the 1st one..each thereafter only records what’s changed

Full backup each time a NEW backup nothing tied to anything
any full backup can be deleted without affecting anything
