  • Join new DC as a member to domain first and then run dcpromo wizard to add additional DC to existing domain.

You have not shared us the version of DCs and domain. Anyways I am sharing the info to Install Additional Domain Controller to existing windows 2008 domain :http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733027(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Yes join new server to domain (where old DC resides/responsible) then run dcpromo wizard to add additional DC to existing domain.

As you said, you have windows 2003 domain. So, follow the below link and configure accordingly.

  • Hi,

Based on the outputs of ipconfig /all, we may need use your main DC’s IP address (192.168.1.173) as the DNS address for the new DC.
