We have a new DR Lab that has no access to the internet. I have installed and activated the KMS server via the phone activation option and it is responding well. My question/potential problem is that due to changes in the lab I have had to redo this 3 times in 10 days. The server is required for VMView so everytime they restore the lab I have to re-activate the server.
Can I 'lock out' my product ID with too many activations? Is there a way to backup and restore a KMS server without re-activating?

If you have perform the KMS activation then the backup, definately you don't need to worry about it. :) But personally, I prefer manual setup the KMS server as the process is faster then restore the whole server

So a restore of an activated KMS server would not require re-activation? Since they are importing the most recent domain controller backups from production and the secure channel gets broken we have to rejoin the KMS server to the domain, would that affect the KMS servers activation?
