  • I use Windows 8  64bit.

I kept getting error 2503 and 2502 when attempting to install Windows Mobile Center.

    Then I Downloaded  drvupdate-amd64.exe from  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931937.

    That solved my problem.

  • Hi Vinay, A little late but I think I found the trick (at least for my Windows 8 Pro Build 9200 installation).  The WMDC tool did automatically install, but wouldn’t run correctly. I had to reboot it to a "clean" state.  Then install .NET Framework 3.5 (took a long time with no activity on the screen for me). Reboot again. Then start the WMDC tool from the tile manually.  I wiped my old HTC Excalibur and also set it with the correct time for good measure and connected it with a USB cable and voila it connected!

The .NET Framework 3.5 information I found here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/05/14/windows-8-and-net-framework-3-5.aspx

    Hope this helps some others..

    Marco..

  • This thread has been quite helpful for me.  I will chime in with my experience on the topic.  Yesterday I moved my w7 32bit wm6 development onto w8 pro 64bit.  I had previously installed VS2008, vs2010, vs2012 on w8 machine.  I moved wm6 project files onto w8 machine and started vs2008. Compilation failed on sqlserverce reference. I installed SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 sp2 (SSCEDeviceRuntime-ENU.msi) on the w8 box which installed with no complaints.  I selected the new sqlserverce reference in my wm6 project.  Complete rebuild was extremely fast and successful.  I installed Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista 64bit (drvupdate-amd64.exe) and after a few plug/unplug, power on/off cycles, my wm6 device was recognized by w8.  I do not use device sync or partnering.  I just download, debug, and file explore on the device from the desktop.  My download and debug to the device worked fine as far as I know.   I am completely pleased so far with platform change.  The old w7 platform had become incredibly painfully slow to do wm6 project work on which has been discussed elsewhere.  This new w8 wm6 environment really zooms.

  • Thank you Roger for this. I rebooted after each step and it worked. WMDC and Windows 8 working. What a relief.
