CD/DVD Device Driver Missing @ Setup

    Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to install Win2008 R2 on a x64 Machine and unable to proceed beyond the the initial step where it complains of a missing Device Driver. I have seen various posts related to this problem on Win7 64-bit. Is there an established solution for this? I have Sony DVD-RW drive from which I am loading the bootable DVD of Win 2008 x64 R2 (which I downloaded from my MSDN Subscription).

    Regards,
    Vikram

  • Hi,

It seems that there are some hardware compatibility issue with your Sony DVD-RW drive and Windows Server 2008 R2. However, you can use the alternative way to install it from a flash drive/ USB thumb drive. Installation from a flash drive/ USB thumb drive will be faster than DVD.

  • Thanks a Lot Vincent. I followed the instructions you provided and yes, managed to boot the Win 2008 R2 out of the USB Drive. But it said starting Windows and once again stops at the same place with the same error message saying a required CD/DVD Device driver is missing. Very strange. Any ideas?

Should I re-download the ISO file - does this happen if something is corrupted?

  • For those of you experiencing this problem using IBM RSA Cards.

    --------------------------------------------

    Limitations for RSA-II installations
You might encounter errors when using RSA-II to install Windows Server 2008 using an ISO image. These errors vary depending on the type of system to which you are installing. In order to avoid these errors, when using RSA-II to install Windows Server 2008, use a mounted physical CD or DVD instead of an ISO image.

Yes, this has been known to happen with a corrupt iso.  It happened to me.
