Change the url of Remote Desktop Web Access

    Question

  • I would like to move and change the URL of the RD Web Access server.  By default Windows installs the RD Web Access website under the "Default Web Site" in IIS.  Typically I don't like keeping websites under the Default Web Site for security reasons.  It just makes it easier for hackers.  Not only that, I have a spare SSL certificate under a name different than my RD Web Access server name.  So, I know that by default, the RD Web Site is https://servername/rdweb.  I want move the folder contents of RD Web and setup a new Web site under IIS under a different name.  For example, lets say I want to change the website to rds.domainname.com.  The SSL was also purchased under rds.domainname.com.  How can I accomplish changing the RD Web Access URL and move the RD Web Access directory folder (C:\Windows\Web\RDWeb) to a new location such as D:\Websites\RDWeb.  I can not find any instructions out there.  Is this possible?

  • You can however change the IIS Website it’s installed to by adding the following registry value before installing RDWeb:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Terminal Server Web Access
    Website               REG_SZ

    Hope that helps.

Afaik you can’t move the on-disk location in a supported way. But here is a thread discussing it : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2rds/thread/16fffaf2-bb92-4d1b-9b36-b966186a2094

I'd recommend against it as we are moving stuff from the windows folder and might affect future servicing of the binaries or other unexpected behavior.
