Not able to connect to the Internet after a fresh installation of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

    Pregunta

  • I need assistance please...am new to installing Windows Server 2003, but I just did a new installation. After the installation completes, the machine boots up and get a Windows Server Post-Setup Security Updates screen, but the machine is not picking up my internet connection. The internet cable is connected to the machine but am not able to connect.
Any ideas on how to get this issue resolved?
    Thanks.

  • Also check device manager to see if there are any devices shown with the yellow exclaimation mark.

  • Yes. Brian said makes sense. There could be also something wrong with hardware drive on the network adaptor.

    1. Run devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager
    2. Check to see if there is any device has yellow exclaimation mark.

    Thanks

  • Hi Spawn10,

Since you cannot download the update device drive for those problematic devices, I think you may need to contact the vendor of the hardware device to order the driver disk from them so that you can install onto the problematic computer.

Hope the issue will be resolved soon. Thanks.

  • Is there a place i can download them from and then manually upload into the server machine?
Go to the web site of the computer manufacturer, or the specific ethernet controller.

You should be able to download the latest drivers there.

  • Hi Spwan10,

Is this computer in a corporation network or in your farmily?

Is it a workstation or a member of a domain?

How does the Windows Server 2003 connect to Internet? Can you describe the network topology for reference.

Meanwhile, please also run "ipconfig /all" on that machince and post back the result for analysis.

I appreicate your time and efforts. Thanks.

  • Hi David, thanks for the response...here are the answers to the question you asked
    - this machine is in my family network
    - I have not created a domain yet...if i did, then I wasn't aware of it
    - I have a router connected directly to the internet source, then the machine is connected to the router
    - When I run ipconfig/all, it displays "Windows IP Configuration" on the cmd prompt and does nothing else. There is no data displayed other than that.

hope this answers the questions you asked...please let me know if you require more info.

    Thanks

  • Hi Spawn10,

    Thanks for your reply.

Can you check to see if the network connection is Connected in Control Panel?

Control Panel -> Network Connection -> find the connection object under LAN or High-Speed Internet -> right-click and enable it

Then, please re-run "ipconfig /all" to see if the computer get some IP address and DNS setting. If not, I would like prefer to check the router in the environment.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks David and Brian...good catch on the device manager idea.
I looked in device manager and the ethernet controller and other devices had the yellow exclamaition mark, but am not able to update them cause I can't get on the internet to automaically update them. Is there a place i can download them from and then manually upload into the server machine? It's running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.

    Thanks
