HP ThinClient on Windows 2008 R2 Standard

    Pertanyaan

  • We're unable to install a camera on our HP ThinClient 5530.  What are the steps to install a camera on a ThinClient?

  • You won't be able to because Windows CE won't give you that ability.  You need a Windows Embedded Standard 2009 or 7 based thin client. Then you can install the camera's XP or Win 7 drivers respectively.

Even if you had the right thin client, it won't work over RD Session Host.  You need RD Virtual Host which has USB Redirection.  Or you can get Citrix XenDesktop or XenApp 6.x.  RD Session Host in Windows Server 2012 allegedly now has USB Redirection. An upcoming version of VMware View may also get USB Redirection.

Reason you need both is the server needs to detect and mount the device on the remote PC within the remote session.

If you go the Citrix route, you may possibly now be able to use a new Linux based thin client with the latest Citrix Receiver 12.x.  Again the camera driver needs to be installed if there even is a Linux driver for your camera and the thin client OS needs to like it.
