WSUS broken

    Pergunta

  • Recently I've not been able to open WSUS admin console from the WSUS server. I have uninstalled WSUS, reinstalled, uninstalled IIS, reinstalled, verified all components are installed. Double checked every post I can find but nothing works. Here are a few of the strange things I have noticed:

1.Update Services Console errors out "An unexpected error occurred" "An unexpected error occurred in the WSUS snap-in. the snap-in will be unloaded". I have wiped the %APPDATA%\Micosoft\MMC contents repeatedly. Still not working.

    2. Tried to reset wsusutil.exe. Received error message "Fatal Error: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.Constants' threw an exception. Added my name to WSUS Administrators and also performed runas Administrator. Neither worked.

    3. Noticed Microsoft security update "Security Update for Microsoft .NET 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2742596) keeps coming up every time I check for new updates. If I check updates in Add/Remove programs this update is present.

    4. In SQL Server Management Studio Express\Database Engine\<servername>\microsoft##ssee get error message "Cannot connect to <servername>\MICROSOFT##SSEE" and "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"

Have worked on problem for 2 days, read countless posts, and tried endless solutions. NOTHING I do so far has made any difference whatsoever.

Server is 2003 R2 SE SP2, Domain Controller, with SQL Server 2005.

  • I had same problem, but I'm using SCCM instead of using WSUS for updates. So, my SCCM works well without WSUS.

Install the latest version for WSUS first : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5216

Well, not sure of the why.. but this definitely the root issue.

Is the Windows Internal Database service running?

Are the SUSDB.mdf and SUSDB_log.ldf files present?

Have you recently installed KB2720211 or KB2734608 to the WSUS server?

What is "SQL Server 2005" doing for this machine?
