    Hello,

I have some questions that confuses me about the transition to Office 365:

I received the transition checklist email already but here are what I need to solve.

What is the timeframe I must change our user's email? I mean, we must change every email since the moment I receive the email or one week before? (we are 300+ persons)

Can I test 365 mailbox and Lync before the migration? I really need to learn about how it wors before the date so I can be better prepared. I think I can't access the mailbox: I installed Office 365 and Lync on one test computer but when I access the 365 portal to check my mailbox, I receive a no mailbox found error. Lync also shows an error like can't find server.

    Please help me!

Good day Stuart.  I'd like to help alleviate your stress in this fairly stressful timeframe for you.

First, you don't have to change your users' email (I'm assuming you mean address), you only have to make sure they've changed their password prior to transition so that the password will both sync to Office 365 and not have expired prior to or during the transition process.  If a user does not change their password, an administrator will have to change it for them in Office 365 or via the BPOS MOAC (the only administration function allowed DURING transition).

If you need to test how Office 365 functions, and I highly recommend doing so, please create a test tenant to do so, it will help you understand the system very thoroughly.

You are correct that you don't have a mailbox in O365 yet as no users are licensed prior to the transition process finalizing.  This goes the same for Lync as well.

For Lync, on the other hand, you can use it in BPOS now, and the Sign-in client (SIC) will configure it for use with BPOS.  Please be aware that, if the backend migration from BPOS OCS to BPOS Lync has not been done for your users yet, you will lose your contacts/groups in Lync and have to re-enter/recreate them.

Let me know if you have any other questions/concerns.

    Dan
