Failed to read PXE settings
- In the smspxe.log
"Failed to read PXE settings.
The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)"
This starting appearing everytime the windows deployment service starts on this system after installing SP2. Prior to the upgrade it worked fine.
I did remove the PXE role and re-add which had no effect.
Any ideas?- 已更改类型Yog Li - MSFTMSFT, 版主2009年11月9日 4:01customer not back.

- How about uninstalling and reinstalling WDS?
Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys - Based on my past experience restarting WDS service and As Jason mentioned Reinstalling WDS will help. Also update the DP's for the boot images.
- is MDT installed ? if so what version ?
my SCCM step by step Guides > http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1064 Any ideas?
Ignore those errors? I've seen that message many times (even before ConfigMgr SP2) and it had no negative effects.- Hi there,I'm getting the same errors. My PXE Boot was working fine until SP2 was installed. I've updated the DP's, I've removed the PXE Point, Removed WDS, And then re-added WDS, the PXE and then updated the DP's. Still no joy. Nothing has changed on the network so I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas?
- Just to update, I'm seeing the following error the smspxe.log:
Failed to read PXE settings.
The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)
This is for the x64 bit Boot image. I recreated the boot image but this still happens. It's as
if the PXE Point can't see the x64 Boot Image correctly. This all happened after we installed SP2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Could you please explain what's not working? Is it really just an error in the logfile or does PXE boot not work at all? What are the symptoms (error messages) that can be seen on the client?
- Torsten, thanks for responding. So...after 3 days of asking the network guys if they were sure the IP Helper was in place...they finally figured out it wasn't.Sorry for the hassle, but thanks again for responding. Everything is working now.
- Torsten,
Post SP2 upgrade I am having exactly the same issue. My OSD is not working at all.
I see this error in the smspxe.log
"Failed to read PXE settings.
The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)"
Symptoms :
- I boot computer through PXE
- It gets the WIM image from distribution point and boot the computer with the image
- computer get rebooted at the point where it shows " preparing network connections"
I am not able to grab SMSTS.log from the computer as it is not giving much time to do it.
As Ashu mentioned above , If I plan to re-install WDS service do I need to add/ remove PSP role as well? What abut certificates as I am running my site in native mode. I am also concerned about drivers I have injected to existing boot images.
Please advice.
Thanks,
Umesh
Umesh Mishra - It gets the WIM image from distribution point and boot the computer with the image
So it's also not a matter of the PXE service point. Or am I getting something wrong? It's not a matter of WinPE if ConfigMgr was able to apply the OS wim image to the disk ...
- computer get rebooted at the point where it shows " preparing network connections"- A quick update here: When you install SP2 upgrade , all custom PXE certificates get deleted.(see Site Management->Site Name->Site Settings-->Certificates->PXE) After adding those certificates again my issue has been resolved.

No it was not applying OS wim image. It was loading boot.wim ( with Vista network drivers) and rebooting without even going to the task sequence.
Umesh Mishra- Same issue here OSD worked great bfore the break now I cant get one machine to PXE boot.
Here is some of the log file.

The request isn't ignored. Have you added the machine using "import computer information"? I think so and you only used the MAC address while importing it. So it's absolutely fine that you're just seeing "MacCount=1".
The most important part of the logfile is missing (the answer from ConfigMgr if there's an advertisement available or not etc). Or doesn't the log tell anything more about that MAC address/client? How are the clients reaching the PXE service point? DHCP options? IP helpers?- Here's a thought: Did you uninstall the WAIK before installing SP2? This was an issue for me on a previous implementation. I had to uninstall the WAIK then reinstall SP2 and it resolved some of my issues.
