SCUP 4.5 - Automatic Check for Updates - File Not Found Error
- Greetings,
I recently went from 4.0 to 4.5 and that seems to really have "broken" SCUP. When I launch SCUP with Automatic Check for Updates, it now pops up a Configure Proxy window. I've completed a full uninstall of SCUP and Install of SCUP 4.5 and still receive the "error". UpdatesPublisher.log reads...

I am able to successfully perform a bulk import...

The only difference I see is that the "Auto" wants to download a XML file which does not exist whereas the Import downloads the CAB. How or where would one change that behavior or is this a "feature" in SCUP 4.5?
Thanks!

The Automatic Check for Updates feature (or when you hit the refresh button) will first try to download the signature file (catalogname.xml) first as this is smaller than the actual catalog cab file to determine if the catalog has been updated. If this file isn't present, which it looks like is the case, it then should download the catalog file (catalogname.cab). I just tried this and that is the experience I'm seeing. Can you provide which OS your using when you hit this?

I think it may be a problem with that particular catalog because I am able to download others without a problem and without getting the proxy configuration window.
- Hi! I'm running 2k3R2SP2x86 with SQL2005SP2Std. I didn't see this behavior until I moved to 4.5.
Thanks! - I'm seeing the same thing in SCE on a Server 2008 box running local WSUS on port 8530 with a remote SQL server. Also, there is no proxy in the environment.
In the SCE console the updates show up and the first time I tried using the SCE to import the Dell updates, it downloaded the majority of the Dell updates for the ftp server, however there were a few that failed and I there was no option other than cancel to get out of the import window. Now I have 35gig or so worth of Dell updates that are all showing download failed in the console. Declining the updates and rnning the server cleanup from the wsus console is not rmeoving the SCUP content.
Now when I go into the SCE console to import the Dell catalog, it just shows all the updates that can not be imported.
Looking at this article http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsum/thread/3d75b640-8e2f-45f9-a5c4-17f748e5ab68 it looks like they added the ability to enter a proxy server address in 4.5, but left out the option of not actually needing a proxy.
Anyone else using a ctalog other than Dell having the same issue offhand? - Hi! I'm receiving the need for a proxy for any catalog when I have it set to auto check when launching the console.
Have you unchecked the auto check for dell and then launch the console? In the Dell case, it's not finding the xml file so I'm guessing it automatically thinks it is behind a proxy. I plan on loading SCUP in a lab environment later this week to do some further testing. I found a work around, but it's giving me an invalid file signature. I'll give an update if I come across an easy solution.
- I am having the same error since upgrading to SCUP 4.5. No proxy in the environment and it can't find the CAB file for HP catalogs. As others have said, a bulk import works fine. I have confirmed that the file it is looking for is available on the FTP site. I have also tried to disabled IE enhanced security and that didn't help either.
Are there any updates. I have the same problem. we don't have any Proxy but it always prompt to configure one.
We have just updated SCUP 4.5 to support WSUS 3.0 SP2. With this release we fixed this proxy issue, where the proxy dialog was incorrectly being displayed when a file was missing. Once you upgrade you should no longer see this issue.
