AD synchronization to FIM 2010 without using the FIM Portal Server

    问题

  • Hi,

I’m new using FIM 2010 and I found very interesting information explaining how to synchronize external AD to FIM. Now I would like to know your opinion on how to do this without using the FIM Portal Server, because to use this feature it’s necessary to have SharePoint installed which it’s not my case.

Any help to resolve this issue is highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  • When you don't want the FIM portal you can use the "old" school way in the days we used ILM and MIIS, using rules extensions to synchronize and provision data to the connectors. You can FIM run on their own WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services) instance without a problem.

Need realtime FIM synchronization and advanced reporting? check out the new http://www.imsequencer.com that supports FIM 2010, Omada Identity Manager, SQL, File, AD or Powershell real time synchronization!

  • Hi Martin,

As Paul says you can achieve provisioning without the Portal - however it can be messier and harder to maintain as you need to write a lot more .NET code.  Using the Portal it's mostly configuration and very little (if any) coding depending on how complex your business rules are.

Is there any particular reason you don't want to install Sharepoint?   Keep in mind that its not a full SharePoint implementation - its either Sharepoint Foundation or WSS which are much lighter than Sharepoint "proper" and can be run as single server instances.

I'm not sure what you are planning to use FIM for, but also be aware that the FIM Portal gives you a lot more benefits than just the codeless provisioning - like Group management and employee self-service to name just a few.

  • Thank you for your answers guys.<o:p></o:p>

Andrew, In fact the reason why I didn't want to use the SharePoint is because I thought that’s was a not free product. But I was looking about this SharePoint Service I saw that is a free version.
