Changing location of msg tracking Log File Directory in Exchange 2003
- Hi,
I just changed the location of msg tracking Log File Directory in Exchange 2003 and reboot the server. Now the new log is in the new location but what happen to the old logs?
1- Do I need to move them myself in new location?
2- Could I just delete them?
3- Another question, what does it mean when the logs are very big for just 3-4 days: 2-3 Go compare to usual 100 Mo files?
Thank you.

Hi,
Rename the log file that is stored in the original log file location before you move it to the new log file location. Use the same naming convention that is used by Exchange message tracking (yyyymmdd) So you can us these log for further analysis.
1: You ned to move orginal log to new location.
2: YOu can delete if no need to keep it for further analysis.

- 1. Yes , you need to move them manually.
2. If you dont want earlier mails to be tracked, yes you can delete them.
3. For the message tracking logs http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2007-Message-Tracking-Part1.html
Also see if any mails are stuck in any loop, creating too many of entries in message tracking logs.

When I check the logs size of msg tracking for the last 4 days they are more than 3 Go but the most of time they are rarely more than 100 Mo. That's I mean...the difference of size is too much. - This is how you can set the size of message tracking logs http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc539074.aspx
Raj Check if your mail system is very busy in that 4 days. Busy traffic leads lots of entries to be recorded, that make sense. If not, that can be a problem, just like Raj said above, mail loop may leads this issue.
- Thank you guys for all your answers. I understand better now.
