2009年9月25日 3:57We have an HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One printer that we have been using with our Sony VAIO desktop for at least most of the past 18-24 months. We changed banks in June. The new bank's Website failed to interact with the printer; they advised us to uninstall and reinstall it. Ever since then, we have been completely unable to use the printer. HP's "service" staff give us varied and/or confusing instructions. One instruction was that the printer is not compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 3. (We cannot use the original CD-ROM for the printer at this time and cannot afford to replace it.)
We have had our Sony VAIO, which has Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3, for over three years. We have had numerous problems with it--it is slow, some programs hang and/or crash, etc. We are skeptical about reverting to SP2 from SP3, but if this is in fact necessary, how should we do that? We could not find any relevant information on Microsoft's Help pages.

However, we have a related question first: The messages below, in chronological order, indicate HP's recommended downloads for our printer, but that combination does not work. Do you, or does anyone else, have suggestions for solving our problem with the C7280? We have been working on this with HP for at least two months and still do not have a workable solution.

problem description: We had to uninstall and reinstall our HP Photosmart
C7280 All-in-One because of acertain Website. We therefore downloaded
100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_Net_enu_NB.exe. Because it did not work with the "HP
C7200 Series" driver, we also downloaded PS_AIO_02_100_009.exe. The Website
we needed to reinstall the printer forstill does not recognize this
printer. There seems to be a problem with its driver. When we open Solution
Center, it says the printer is disconnected, although it is not. We got it
to scan anyway, but this is strange. What is the problem, and how can we fix

I'm going to answer the second question first, another manufacturers driver will almost never work. on the first one, go to device manager (right click "My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager") and look at "Imaging devices" expand it to see your printer. right click the device (printer icon) and choose "Properties" then go to the "Details" tab, you'll see a dropdown menu at the top, click it and choose "Devnode Flags" the first 2 entries is what your looking for, DN_DRIVER , and look to see if it says that its loaded, then the second should say DN_STARTED , if the printer is starting up. check those two and see what they say. If the driver isnt loading, then its probably not a case of a wrong driver, but a problem with the PC that its not loading the driver thats there
2009年9月25日 18:30The issue is that although the AIO file is supposed to include everything, no driver is recognized during the install. The program installer asks for a driver, and the one for the HP 7200 series did not solve the problem. There is a glitch somewhere. The driver HP recommended is also for an HP printer, but it is for a completely different model.
2009年9月26日 0:23well you should try the one that they recommend then, they know they're own drivers ( should anyway ) and know if they will work between models.
2009年9月26日 1:06Unfortunately, neither the HP 7200 Series nor the HP-advised other driver does not solve the "fatal error during installation." Do you have any other ideas, or would you require the entire long and confusing set of emails?

2009年9月26日 17:03They gave us instructions for removing the printer from Add/Remove Programs, the registry, and a couple of other places. In short, yes. Unfortunately, the last set of uninstall instructions is part of the current confusion, because we never got an answer to one of our questions about that...would you like the details?
2009年12月15日 3:14This sounds like a similar problem I have with my C7250 on my Laptop running VISTA. Initially I set it up via USB to my desktop running XP. Simple, straight forward setup, albeit took nearly an hour to run the full setup. Then, I tried to change the connection from USB to ethernet. What a mess. Instructions were hardly useful. Help Desk took multiple calls and several hours of uninstalling and downloading a tool to further uninstall something. But, after a lot of hassle, it did work as a network printer. Then my router broke and I went back to a USB connection to the desktop; uninstall, reinstall not too much trouble. Now, I have a new router and I'm trying to switch from USB to ethernet connection again. Big mistake. Uninstall fails with a Fatal Error but still seems to have installed some of the features. The installation program continues on to offer automated help/solutions. I ran the uninstall/install countless times and got various solutions sent back to me. Some of them gave me help for a wireless connection, but, my printer is connected via an ethernet cable; perhaps, the setup program gets confused because my Laptop is wirelessly connected to the network? Several times I got help/solutions suggesting I run teh MS Install Cleanup utility but says MS suggests not running it if I have Office 2007 installed. Well, of course I have Office 2007 installed.
Anyway, I ran the MS Install Cleanup and removed HP Photo Smart Essentials and Total Care Advisor. There was nothing listed specifically for the C7250 Printer.
Still get Fatal Error after 20 minutes of running latest HP update: 100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_Net_enu_NB.exe
Message occurs after install reaches 100%
Solution Center can't find C7250 but, it is in the Printers Folder and I can print to it.
Solution Center cannot find the printer: No HP Devices have been detected. Solution Center will now close.
HP Update Installed Solution Center 13 update. Now I get a new message: HP Solution Center cannot run because your device isnstallation is not complete. Please plug in the USB cable or re-run the setup program from the installation CD for a network installation. If this does not complete the installation, or you do not have the CD, access the hp HELP FILES BY CLICKING THE sTART MENUE.
The printer is connected. I can go to its url address and see the settings, etc. I do see the printer in the Printer Folder with it's URL shown. I can print to it from wordpad and Firefox. But, HP Solution Center does not find it and will not open. I do not have any application now in my start menu to open the printer for fax, scan, etc settings.
Somewhere, somehow there must be a way to completely Un-install the printer and all it's associated baggage so that it can do a complete, clean re-install. But, I have not yet found a way to do that.
And, is there some way to UNPACK that latest update 100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_Net_enu_NB.exe once and for all so it does not have to do it every time it is executed?
