HI ,
we have developed a site in sharepoint server 2010 and the url that can be used to browse the site is as follows.
Now we have the machine hosted in the internet so that our client can have a look and play around. The domain name has been changed to client.mycompany.com (machine1-->client.mycompany.com)
But am not able to access the site with the domain name specified. I haev tried
1. added the url to trusted sites.
2. Mapped the IP of the machien to the Hostname in the HOSTS file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts..
I am not sure how do i have to map the internal Sharepoint Url to the Public URL provided. Shed some light on it please.
Thanks in Advance

As your title mentions Alternate Access Mapping I'm surprised that you don't seem to have changed the Alternate access mappings in SPS 2010.
If you have specified them what did you specify ?
Something like
Default: http://machine1:5000 (pity about the 5000 why aren't you using the default 80 so you could use just >servername>)
Internet: http://client.mycompany.com
should work provided DNS is aware that client.mycompany.com will match to machine1:5000

2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow
Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.- 已建议为答案 Serge Luca [MVP]MVP 2010年7月15日 10:41

You shouldn't post the same question both as a new question and as a question in an existing thread!
But as I'm not a Moderator here I can't delete one of them w(hich is what I do in the pre-2010 forums).
Following the title of this thread again. If you don't *also* specify AAM settings for both your internal name and your external name you will have problems. Just mapping the hosted name gets you able to access the SP server's main page but not necessarily to be able to access and work with internal pages.
(This might also affect SSRS but I've not read that other post.)
