This is on a completely fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. Installed Roboform and Adobe PDF Professional, and they both installed fine without any errors. Both toolbars appear fine and work as expected IF I have a Windows Explorer window open BEFORE I open the IE8. If I do not have any Explorer window open, and start IE8, then I cannot see these two add-ons. They are not visible anywhere - on the main page / Manage Add-Ons screen / right-click -> Toolbars link. If I now close IE8, open Win Explorer and then reopen IE8 then both toolbars appear fine again. Any ideas??

And yes I tried deleting all cache / history etc, tried reboots, switched off antivirus (Kaspersky) but still get the same results always.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I would like to confirm if you installed the latest version of these programs.

Please virify the information as below:

    Roboform

    http://www.roboform.com/download.html

    Adobe:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/

If the issue persists, I suggest reseting IE and re-enable the add-ons:

    Reset IE

    ============

    1. Click the Start Button, type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

    2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.

    3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

    4. When it finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK twice.

Please load IE, re-enable the add-ons and test it again.

If the issue persists, I suggest testing it a new account:

    Create a new user account

    ====================

    1. Click the Start Button, type User Accounts in the start search pane and press Enter.

    2. Click Manage user accounts.

    3. Click Create a new account, and type the name.

    4. Choose account type as Computer administrator.

    5. Click Create Account.

    6. Log off and log on with the new account.

Btw I also noticed that it also works if I have any MS Office application (Word / Excel / Powerpoint / OneNote / Outlook) open.

    Any ideas?

Creating a new account did not work for me. Still has no effect. Another PDF file I have saved on my hard drive will load if I open it from File Menu in IE8 but I cannot get a pdf to open in the browser when I try to open it from web page. I tried to Save the pdf from the web page but was unable. This is very frustrating and only has happened recently. I suspect a Windows Update and am tempted to use System Restore to go back and try that. I would like to wipe IE8 and reinstall but I suspect that will not help as I have done a a reset on IE8 but it did not help. It is strange as I can get the same pdf that will not open in a browser in IE8 to open without a problem  in a browser using Firefox. I would prefer to use IE8 but unless I can fix IE8 will have to use Firefox in future as it is the only way to open any pdf files I may see.

    Any more ideas?

This is probably a setting within Adobe Reader rather than IE
Adobe Reader updates have a tendency to amend preferences.

    Try:
Open Adobe Reader, then from the Edit menu select Preferences.

On the Preferences screen look at the Internet option.

The Web Browser Option shows whether (or not) to Display PDF in browser..

What you want to happen is determined here.

Change the setting to determine if this meets your requirements

    Good luck

I have tried that. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader 9.2 with antivirus turned off. I have tried Adobe with the "Display PDF in browser" both checked and unchecked all to no avail. You could be right and the problem may have occurred when I had an update of Adobe to 9.2. I will try to uninstall 9.2 and go back to 9.1 to see if it works. Thks for your advice as I have been chasing IE as the culprit.
