    Hello everyone,

    My laptop is Acer 5250 and the OS is Windows 7 (pre installed).

    I need to connect my laptop to the TV, to watch downloaded movies. Only VGA to VGA cable can be used with separate Audio Cable. There is no HDMI terminal in the laptop. What should be the acceptable maximum cable length, for reasonably good picture and sound quality, without much attenuation of signals?

    I know, it is difficult to give an exact answer but I am looking for information from experienced people because I have never done this before.

    Hello

    Thank you for the above. I read the "Answers.com" information. The two things that matter are, VGA driver and the cable. How can I find specifications of my VGA driver. I want to order a cable from Ebay. Is there any way I can get information about the quality of a cable before ordering.

    Hi,

    First, you need to make sure what kind of input ports the TV has. Your computer needs to have an output port that matches one of the input ports on your TV.

    Hi,

    Take screenshots for your TV's input ports and computer's display card output ports. Typically, they both have HDMI ports.

    http://www.avsforum.com is a good place to get info on various brands of video
    cables. If the ebay seller does not know, then buy somewhere else. The Acer link
    should get you to the info you need on your video card/chip.

    Hello Juke Chou

    The computer has no HDMI. It has only VGA output, with seperate Audio output (3.5 mm socket)

    The TV has HDMI, Component video etc. that I cannot use. It also has VGA and seperate Audio input.

    I used a long VGA cable previously. Well relatively long and it seemed to work fine. It wasn't exactly picture perfect quality but you shouldn't expect that with VGA. If you had another machine you could try setting it up for streaming...

    Hi,

    You have dual Graphic Card installed in your laptop, one is integrated card, the other one is a standalone card.

    MPEG-2/DVD decoding
    VC-1 and H.264 (AVC) decoding
    MPEG-4 Part 2 DivX® and Xvid decoding This means your card support hardware acceleration.

    it means that your computer has one of these, depending on the configuration.
    You should look into VGA to HDMI cable. or VGA to DVI. you said "etc." about the
    ports on the TV and did not mention DVI. what kind of separate audio input on
    the TV? analog? digital? what brand and model TV?

    Hello,

    TV has no DVI. It has HDMI input. Also in the back panel there is "3.5 mm PC Audio Input" and     "PC/VGA" (separate terminals). My TV model Dynex DX-32L220A12). User manual at - www.dynexproducts.com - I tried to copy and paste the instruction from that, but it does not copy.

    If the PC has VGA input, just use a VGA cable to connect it to laptop.

    start with VGA to VGA and buy it at a place with a good exchange/return policy.
    if you don't like the quality, exchange it for VGA to HDMI. either way you will
    need separate audio cable.

    You won't find a VGA to HDMI cable. VGA is analog, while HDMI is digital, so conversion by an electronic device (like a PC) is required.

    I should have used the word "adapter". I was thinking of a device like:
     
    Best Buy sells them (but at 3x the price of everyone else)

    In Amazon and Ebay, there are dozens of cables of different lengths, with VGA plug at one end and HDMI plug at the other end. They call it VGA to HDMI cable! Could you explain please.

    One of the few I could find on Amazon:

    "Your Video card must support digital signal output through VGA port function. Please consult with your VGA card's user manual for more information."

    I'm guessing that there are very few video cards that support this. Also note the first customer reviews for that cable.

    Thank you for the above. After reading the reviews, I decided drop HDMI and go for VGA to VGA.
