combining 70-536, 70-561 and 70-562
combining 70-536, 70-561 and 70-562
- I have waited too long taking the certification and since I am in the process of taking the certification i have a few unanswered questions:
1. Can i prepare for 70-536 using windows vista and visual studio 2008?
2. What other certification shall I need to obtain MCAD and MCPD?
3. what are the time frame for facing off of these certifications?
4. If studying from home can i rely on the microsoft site alone?
Thanks in advance

- Hi Jaimbo
In 1 year you can get a lot done.
You can also probably do the MCTS WCF (70-503) as this adds to a web developer toolkit and possibly you could also add ADO.NET (70-561). If you have those 2, its possible to just add 2 more exams and get the MCPD Enterprise credential as well. thats a total of 7 exams and you have 6 certs (MCTS ASP.NET, ADO.NET, WCF, Windows Forms, MCPD Web and Enterprise). In 1 year that is about an exam every 7 weeks or so which is a significant but achievable workload. And if you were so inclined you need 1 more exam and you have all 3 MCPD certifications
All is possible.
Least amount of money. Well if you are relatively skilled in most aspects, you can get away without using books and just do it using blogs, forums and MSDN. I would say its easier for exams 70-562 and 70-564 to do this as it comes down to day to day technical knowledge. 70-536 I nearly always recommend getting a book to help but its not required all the time.
For example, I have on my blog a set of posts on 2 of the exams listed 70-536 & 70-562 which have MSDN links from the objectives covered in the exams. Are these enough to pass the exam.. depends on your ability and additional knowledge.
Hope this helps

- Answers to your questions
1. Yes you can, the version of Visual Studio doesnt matter as long as its 2005 or 2008. None of the UI/Tools are examined
2. MCAD is now retired and so cannot be obtained again. If you want the MCPD Web 3.5 its
- 70-536 +
- 70-562 +
- 70-564 (you can do them in any order its the combination)
- 70-536 +
- 70-505 +
- 70-503 +
- 70-562 +
- 70-561 +
- 70-565
3. Depending on your ability, skill level, experience and study habits it could be anything from a week to a year. On average most people do about 1 exam per month tho it can go quicker. There is no estimated time as it depends on the person
4. Can you rely on the Microsoft site alone... depends on what you mean by the Microsoft site.. MSDN will provide a lot of information as well blogs and this forum. Again depends on your ability to hunt down the information you need.

- Thanks Niall for the elaborate answer.
As to Q2: What other certification can i achieve as a developer after obtaining MCPD web 3.5 certification? I have a one year certification plan
As to Q3: I just want to use the least amount of money on this - Buying of an appropriate books (E-books), labs and softwares for my preparation and then as you say use MSDN, blogs and the forum.
Again thanks in advance - Hi Jaimbo
