Deinstall WAIK 1.1 when upgrading from SP1 to SP2
- Hi,
In the following document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee344146.aspx) I read this:
"Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK) Requirements
Operating System Deployment in Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 requires the Windows 7 Windows Automated Installation Kit 2.0 release (version 6.1.7600).The Windows AIK (version 1.0 for Configuration Manager 2007 or version 1.1 for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1) must be uninstalled from the SMS Provider computer and the computer must be restarted before beginning the upgrade process. When the site is upgraded to SP2, the Windows AIK 2.0 will be installed on the SMS Provider computer."
Does this mean that I manually have to uninstall WAIK 1.1 before upgrading to SP2? I thought this was handled automatically by the SP2 installation.

- Hi,
You will most likely answers like you don't have to uninstall WAIK and you have to uninstall WAIK before upgrading to SP2. I have seen upgrades where it didn't work and where it worked. So I always uninstall WAIK.

- Its supposed to be handled automatically by SP2 upgrade, but in my test lab and live environment I had to uninstall WAIK and reinstall WAIK 2.0
- Its part of the Prerequisites check during the setup, but as far as I know you still have to uninstall it manually

- Has Microsoft stated it's "supposed" to be handled automatically by SP2 upgrade? Don't they know for sure? =)
Anyway, thanks for the information. Deinstall old WAIK and then install the new. Got it. - One step in the "Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Upgrade Checklist" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee344152.aspx) is: "Uninstall the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) version 1.1 from the SMS Provider computer and then restart the computer before beginning the upgrade process.
