    Please Help !!!

    Situation:

    Domain Controllers:
    1. DC1 on Windows Server 2000 (without roles)
    2. DC2 on Windows Server 2003 (with all roles)

Microsoft Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2003 (not Domain Controller).

I install Windows server 2008 on a new server. And planning promote this server to Domain Controller  and demote Domain Controller on Windows Server 2000 (DC1).

    Questions:
    1. How this promotion can cause problem on Exchange 2007 ( I mean forest and domain preparations ) ?
    2. Should I first demote DC2  and then promote new server to Domain controller  and not the reverse?

    Thanks

    Hi,

You said DC2 is on Windows 2003 and only one DC with Windows 2003 in forest so don’t demote it first since Exchange 2007 requires Schema master on Win2003 SP1 or later so suggest you to install Windows 2008 first move all the roles and then demote DC2. This process doesn’t affect your Exchange 2007 environment.

Do you still need DC1 which is on Windows 2000? I would say demote DC1 and keep DC2 since it is on Windows 2003 and which the minimum requirement for Exchange 2007 also.

Just curious if you tried this yet?  I'm in a similar situation getting ready to put my first 2008 server in and promote it to a DC.  I'm already running Exchange 2007 SP1.

I'm curious how it work and if you had any problems.

    Hi,

In relation to the question, what if my environment has Exchange 2003(on a separate server) and planning to upgrade domain controller from win 2003 to win 2008.
Will Exchange 2003 has issues if I proceed with upgrading the DC to 2008 ?
