已答覆Sidebar annoyance

The sidebar in a previous build (cant remember which) stuck to the desktop, which I think it should.  By that I mean when you hit the show desktop button in your quick launch area, or by pressing Win+D, it stays there as though it is actually part of the desktop.  I REALLY like this, and is the only feature of the sidebar that makes it better than 3rd party programs.

However since RC1 it now disappears just like it's any old window, what good is that if u want to quickly look at it by showing the desktop?  Now you have to minimize each window seperately to get to it.  I could understand why some people might not want this feature, but, without that feature I wouldnt even run the sidebar, so Microsoft please add this as an option at least!

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to stop Show Desktop from hiding sidebar. The shell team would have to add a new feature to Show Desktop to notify Sidebar before it is hidden and allow us to override the standard behavior. The shell team did not have time to take this feature for Vista.

It is something they want to address in the next version of Sidebar (if it’s possible to work around the shell) or in the next version of Windows (if they can’t work around it).

Well, I'm sure anyone who uses Sidebar is going to be frustrated by this. Hopefully, with enough complaints, an update will be released.

How about creating a .scf or .exe file that executes the minimize all command -Winkey + M? It could be placed in the quick launch much the same as Show Desktop, right?

I whole heartedly agree.  When you hit the "show Desktop" button the sidebar should stay!!!!

I found this discussion trying to find a workaround

    Hi guys,

I know this thread is quite old, but I found a way of fixing this. It requires a little app called AutoHotkey, which assigns scripts to key combinations (link Windows-D) on your keyboard, and overrides the original function. It is incredibly useful, and well worth installing anyway.

Some chap over on the forums for the app's website had the same problem as you, and somebody else posted the solution:

    Enjoy!

Besides agreeing with the fact of this annoying thing,
you actually do not really essentially have to minimize each window separately to get to it, simply press win+d and restore any single  of the minimized windows, will save steps :)
