Unable to install Vista Service Pack 2
Unable to install Vista Service Pack 2
- I've seen that others have had issues with this, as well. Upon trying to use Windows Update or the standalone SP2, I get the same error:ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490)I tried running the System Update Readiness tool, and that didn't solve my problem. However, I have uploaded the log files and the CBS.log to my public SkyDrive for viewing, if there's someone who could look at them and help me out. Let me know if there are any other files needed for analysis. Thanks very much!~AdamP.S. The CBS file is 40MB, so it is still uploading and may not be immediately viewable. Sorry for any inconvenience.

- It seems that KB905866 (junk mail definition updates for Windows Mail), is missing files in the servicing store and is causing the problems. Try to uninstall this patch by going to Programs and Features > View installed updates and uninstall it. Then try to install SP2 again.
- Thanks for the response, Andreas.Hmm... I don't seem to have that particular patch in my updates. KB905866 doesn't show up anywhere. Could I find it some other way, or do you have any other ideas?~A
- Now that's strange! What happens if you try to install it, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=aa029fde-f341-44fc-8b85-0c6f3d3c2d69&displaylang=en? Then run System Update Readiness Tool and post back the CheckSur logs.
- Boo... Dang it. That sounded like a good idea, but I can't install that update. A window pops up that says, "The update does not apply to your system". I'm so confused. How am I missing files for a patch that I don't have, and can't have even if I try to get it? And why does that ultimately determine that I can't install SP2?
- Something is clearly major corrupt with KB905866 and there are references to it somewhere in the system. I guess that the easiest way of solving this is to get the below files from another Vista machine and put them in \Windows\Servicing\packages folder. Do you have access to another Vista machine?
Also, do you find any references to KB905866 if searching for it in the registry by using regedit.exe?

(f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB905866~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.30.0.mum - I looked at the registry on both my desktop can my laptop (my laptop is the one having issues), and I get the same registry search results; one item (Package 5). Is there another place I can acquire these files?
