Locked SP1 install fails with error 8E5E03FA

    We are trying to install SP1 RTM on a server which had SP1 beta previously installed, but it fails with error 8E5E03FA. SP1 beta uninstall went sucessfully. The Systemupdate-preparation tool for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB947821) was installed but does not help.       HRESULT = 0x8e5e03fa - JET_errReadVerifyFailure

      Failed to install catalog file \\?\C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution \Download\6f57687d9d61a9466029f5de6e804bfe\Package_8_for_KB2467023~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1.cat for package [HRESULT = 0x8e5e03fa - JET_errReadVerifyFailure]

      This means the SoftwareDistribution folder has some issues.

      Run this FixIt:

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

      to repair the SoftwareDistribution folder. Now try again.

        The suggested MS Fixit does not support Server 2008R2. I'll try it the manual way...

            It works :)

            The thorough clean up procedure was required. After cleaning up, this patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 needed to be applied too.

            However, the Fixit procedure needs to be updated for 2008R2. There were some messages about deprecated software and the list of dlls is not correct.
