When searching for a file in the computer I get the following message.
Is it a good idea to index all files? Some say it slows down the computer. Please advice.

Thank you for the above information. I have two more questions.
1. In the 2nd link you have given (windows 7 forum), the following appears at the bottom of the page. "Windows 7 Forums is an independent web site and has not been authorized, sponsored, or otherwise approved by Microsoft Corporation"
What does this mean?2. In indexing, does the phrase "slow down" mean, Slow down of search only OR slow down of the over all computer operation? (for instance,if you include the entire hard disc in the search index)

If the link involved with registry, you’d better backup the registry first. And I have checked that article from Windows server forum. This configuration will not damage your PC, so it could be considered safe.
