the client can not list ftp folder compnents when the client windows firewall is on

hi friends
in my LAN , i have a win 2008 R2 as ftp server and a win 2008 R2 as a client.
at the client , when i enter ftp command line and i want to run ftp commands like dir , if the client's windows firewall be on, system ( client ) doesn't get any reply and the ftp folder are not listed , but when at the client i turn off windos firewall , the dir command works and lists the ftp folder .
what is the cause ?

Hi,
It’s better to using a client OS for such test. Because the server OS always have more strict security requirements. Please verify the file and printer sharing is turn on. For more information, you may refer to the following article.
