    Typically, anything you manually modify in the registry related to the TCPIP stack requires a reboot before the setting will take effect.

    If you read the step 4 of the operation, it states that --> Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    Yea. I read step 4. A colleague stated they made the change and it seemed the change took affect without a reboot. Checking to see if anyone else might have run across this as well.

    You were right when you use Windows Vista and later operating systems because the new TCP/IP stack (which was introduced in Windows Vista and later) uses a new method to store configuration settings that enables more dynamic control and does not require a computer restart after settings are changed.

    So, as the knowledge base article says, for more stable operating system environment, its better to restart your system after you have changed the desired configuration.
