    Hello,

I have backups of all my GPOs that I made with gpmc.msc. I would now like to view these GPOs in some sort of GUI viewer on my Windows 7 machine, as it seems I cannot with gpmc without being logged in to that domain (and I am currently unable to do that on this computer).  I really do not want to examine these GPOs folder by folder... does anyone know of a utility that I can do this with? Thanks!

    Hello,

If you want to restore them, refer to that: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785141%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

However, you can ask them here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/threads

Well there is way for this,

You need to take a help of RSAT Tool.

Install RSAT Tool on your windows 7 machine first (Download it from - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7887)

Once done , Enable the feature by ,

Run---->Appwiz.cpl---->Turn Windows features on or off---->Remote Server Administration Tools------ > Feature Administration Tools and then enable Group Policy Management Tools .

Once this is done go run----->MMC.exe------>Add/Remove Snap in----->Add GPMC from the list (Remeber you should run MMC.Exe with domain administrator previlages)

After this Right click on Group Policy Objects in GPMC------>Go to manage backup------>Backup Location Browse and select appropriate backup path----> It will list all the GPO which were backed up , Bottom you will have option to Restore, Delete,View settings....

Depending on your requirement you can view the setting of the perticular GPO by doing this

Please try and let me know wheather it is serving your purpose or not

    Hope this information helps

You should remeber windows 7 mahicne should be a part of domain without this , you can perform the above

    Hi again,

Really appreciate the responses, the problem is that I am auditing these GPOs as an outside company.  So we need to bring these GPO's back to our offices, and our computers are not apart of any domain/etc, and gpmc will not let us view the backup GPO in the console without adding a forrest. So I was hoping there was a better way to view their GPOs without going through the hassle of going folder by folder... thanks again.

    Hello Joe,

I dont think you will be able to view this GPO without adding a forest. Probably you can create a lab forest and try above solutin which is provided by me. It might work ( Thourhg I have not tested this).

Apart from this , As per my view you really dont have much options

    Regards,
