We made a change to the way we allow console usage, based on customer feedback we got just prior to beta1.

We have defined two possible users for this feature set and tailored our security model around it. The two user types are the SCCM Administrator and the Asset Manager. The administrator has full control of all feature aspects, from provisioning the online service to deploying the new sync point. The Asset Manager can run the different reports, change/create categories and families as well as access the dashboard, but has no control over configuration.

You will be able to see and test this new configuration in the RC (Release Candidate) build of Asset Intelligence 1.5 when it gets posted to Connect, after the Beta1 cycles completes.

I've also blogged this on my myITforum blog: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jgilbert/archive/2008/03/16/asset-intelligence-role-based-management-capabilities-in-configuration-manager-2007-sp1.aspx in case you've found this post that way

If you're wondering who I am, I'm Jeff Gilbert from the Configuration Manager writing team and I documented Asset Intelligence for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1. If you have any questions about the documentation for Asset Intelligence, or just want to share feedback on the documentation (AI or otherwise), feel free to e-mail me at jeff.gilbert@ microsoft.com.
