QuestionOWA Crashes since installing IE7

Silly me...  I upgraded to IE7 and now can not reply to some emails or send new emails with attachments.  I believe the server is an Exchange 2003.  I am on XP Pro.

Also, the site uses a unsigned certificate.  Is there any way to tell IE7 to ignore this condition instead of annoyinh me with warning messages all of the time.  I accept the risk of using the site and it p*sses me off to have to go through several warnings etc to get to my mailbox.

What happens when you try and reply to a message or reply with an attachment?

As for your second question that depends on why the certificate is not trusted.  If you're not within the validity period or you're using a differant server address than that which the certificate was issued to than you're not going to be able to get around the errors.  On the other hand if those are correct and your machine simply does not trust the certificate issuer you should be able to view the certificate and install it, basically setting your computer to trust the CA.

I have exactly the same problem - as others are reporting as well.  In my case, as soon as I hit "send" within OWA, I receive the ever-apologetic message box saying that IE has encountered a problem and must close.

This has happened each and every time since I installed RC1.

We are having this same problem in our company. The IE7 final release version crashes consistently when trying to send a message in OWA. After deinstalling IE7, IE6 does not work properly, it now opens 50 windows every time you want to view a web page, and it stalls for long periods of time.
MS Outlook 2007 B2 also appears to become extremely slow and unusable after the IE 7 install.
I think these are important issues that should be resolved in an update/fix.

I had the same problem with IE 7 crashing just after "spell check" when trying to send an e-mail through OWA 2003. This was using the official public release of IE. I discovered that the issue seems to be related to the S/MIME feature of OWA, which can be uninstalled through Add/Remove Programs. As an alternative, you can disable S/MIME by doing the following:

    C:
    cd "%systemroot%\downloaded program files"
    regsvr32 /u exsmime.dll
    regsvr32 /u mimectl.dll

There's a few web sites already discussing this issue.

The issue is the S/Mime control.  I spoke with someone on the OWA development team.  IE7 has new tighter security features. This breaks the current S/Mime.  Rather than relax security, Microsoft will release a Microsoft Update hotfix for Exchange next week.

In the interval you can turn off the S/Mime.

Download details: Update for Exchange 2003 (KB911829):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5bc06e8a-08eb-4976-bc68-a03ebe3a2552&displaylang=en

This update restores functionality to Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Access due to changes being made to Internet Explorer in the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista Beta release.

Do you have Exchange 2003 sp2 and that patch on your box?  This MU's down automagically if SP2 has been installed.

KB911829 doesn't appear to fix the problem, and I have it [the patch] installed on my Exchange 2003 SP2 server. It looks like Microsoft has addressed the S/MIME issue in this KB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924334

I have yet to install this and see if it works.

I'd also suggest checking that the patches are really installed.  I noticed with SP2 if you reapply the SP it doesnt pull the registry keys for the Post-SP2 updates so MU/AU thinks the patches have already been installed.

Best way to be certain is to compare the version(s) of the updated files.

How do you disable S/MIME?  I've tried un-installing it through WinXP add/remove.  I simply get an error asking me to point to mimectrl.msi.  I downloaded it from OWA and pointed to it on my hard drive.  The un-install says it's not the correct version.  Very strange.  Any ideas?
