QuestionOWA form customization in Exchange 2007

    Hi,

I have gone through this article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb891801.aspx# which talks about OWA customization in Exchange 2007 SP1.

I have followed the same steps mentioned in the article for OWA customization.

However custom forms are not getting call unless & until I reset the IIS. According to this article OWA should scan the folder every hour & should pick up the changes. This is not working in my case. On resetting the IIS it is working fine.

This is what I did on exchange server

    1. Created a folder inside \ClientAccess\Owa\forms\Customization say "OWATest".

    2. Deployed all the custom forms inside OWATest folder.

    3. Rename the ClientAccess\Owa\forms\Customization\registry.xml.template to registry.xml & specify the path of new forms inside this xml file for my custom classes.

    4. My custom forms starts getting called only if I reset the IIS. According to this article OWA should scans the folder every hour & looks for the changes.

Can anybody please tell me what's going wrong in my case.

    Thanks

    Atul Sureka

I chatted with the OWA team and they said that the documentation is incorrect. OWA needs to be restarted for the custom forms to be detected.  So what you are seeing in the correct behavior.

    Many thanks David for clarification.

However it's not possible on production environment to reset the IIS. Isn't there any other better approach for OWA customization, which does not require IIS reset.

Unforunately it doesn't look like it.  Of course, you might want to try just restarting the OWA app pool rather than bringing down all of IIS.  That should probably work.

Restarting the MSExchangeOWAAppPool worked. However it ends all the users session which are logged in at that time. If user is in between of writing a mail then s/he will loose his/her data.

Hence resetting the App pool does not seems a good idea on production machine.

Is there any other possible workaround for it. Can Microsoft release a HF for this issue.
