Activation Error 0x8007000D
Locked
Hi all,
I have recieved the Vista Beta 2 DVD (Build 5384) with product key etc a few days ago. Installed fine, a few driver issues but working well.
I have tried to activte my copy but get an error (0x8007000D) which is described as "The data is invalid." I have checked the Product ID and it is as per the sticker on the DVD insert.
A prompt suggests that I can activate over the phone, but all the numbers are listed as "Test"! Tried calling tech support and found the Activation telephone number in the UK, but neither would help because its a Beta.
Can anyone advise why I am getting the error and suggest a correction? I have 13 days left......
Cheers
Patrick

Hi, do you have any disc image software installed? Such as Daemon Tools? Version 3.47 of it will cause this issue with activation. If so, the fix is to uninstall and install version 3.33. You can find older versions on their site.
Besides, The activation failure could be result in Anti Virus software installed on the system and blocking the activation process too. So, you can try to uninstall it.
If both method not work, you can try the following method too:
1) Restart the PC. After the BIOS screen hit F8 a couple of times untill you see the Advanced Boot Options menu. Select Safe Mode and hit Enter.
2) Click the Administrator account, give the password you gave during setup (Or try blank) and login.
3) Click Start, Rightclick Computer and select Manage
4) Click the plus sign in front of the "Local users and Groups" to open up that folder and click Users. Note the red circle / white x icon next to Administrator.
5) Right click Administrator, click Properties and uncheck the "Account is disabled box"
NOTE: Although it may same convienient to leave the Administrator account active and use this as the default login we strongly urge you not to do this. The User Account control may same a lot of extra clicks to some but serves an important extra layer of defense.6) If you reboot now then the Administrator account will not show up on the Welcome screen. Therefor we will edit the registry.
Click Start | Run | Regedit [Enter]
Go to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserListIf SpecialAccounts doesn't exits create it (New, Key). Then create the UserList key, (New, Key). Select UserList on the left pane and right click in the right pane and select New | "DWORD (32bit) Value"
Value Name: Administrator
Value Data: 17) Click Ok, Start and next to the Power icon button press the little arrowhead and choose restart.
8) After the restart the Welcome Screen appears. If you followed the steps correctly you'll now see the Administrator account. Click on that icon to logon as Administrator.
Just like before when logging in as a user the "Activate Windows now" dialog appears. If it not appear, you can go to the dialog that says "Activate Windows now" by running c:\windows\system32\slui.exe
Assuming your product key is correct you'll soon be smiling at the "Activation was successful" message.
Thanks for the reply.
The answer is no. Its a clean copy of Vista with the addition of a driver for the installed Matrox Parhelia Graphics card and its associated screen management software PowerDesk-SE.
- try my additional method. It may work.
By the way, here is another method you can try too:
1) Make sure the internet connection is active
2) Restart the PC. After the BIOS screen hit F8 a couple of times untill you see the Advanced Boot Options menu. Select Safe Mode and hit Enter.
3) Click on the Windows Key + R on the keyboard. This will open a RUN box. Type MSCONFIG and press Enter.
4) On MSCONFIG, select the TOOLS tab, scroll down and go to "Disable UAP". Hit the Launch button, close the command windows afterwards and click OK.
5) Restart the PC.
6) Logon to the PC with a user that has the Administrative permissions (If you have more than one account take the first account you created). Just like before when logging in as a user the "Activate Windows now" dialog appears. If not appear, use my above method to call the activation process out.
Note that the little shields are now gone from the options. Make sure you have internet connection and hit Activate now. Assuming your product key is correct you'll soon be smiling at the "Activation was successful" message.
Richard.
Followed both methods without a problem but they didn't resolve the issue.
Re-installed fresh copy of Vista, and with out making graphics driver mod and adding machine to domain etc was able to activate.
Tried installing graphics driver and activivation was 'lost'!
Going to look into alternate dual head graphics card......

- Sorry to be a pain. Have never reported a bug to Microsoft. What's the process?
- You can download the MBC(Microsoft Beta Client) from the connect website in order to report the bug.
- There was also a similar problem I experienced during one of my Vista Installs; aparently a dead stick of RAM installed some components incorrectly. It harassed me to install claiming my grace time was over, and no-matter what button I pressed the program would just lock up.
The solution was to re-install Vista. It was just dead that one time.
Does it happen after more than one install? If so, then disregard; but my solution was to just reinstall the danged thing. (Without the RAM installed in my case :p) Seem doing a memory check before installing Vista is a good practice.
I think it's time to close this thread now.
